The Wingrip system has the ability to be configured so that it can be used with pads in series to provide safe access along the full extent of the wing. A pair of horizontal lifeline assemblies are then attached to the pads that allow workers on each line to pass each other and the unique pass through traveler allows hands-free transition through brackets on the intermediate pads. The Wingrip is fully compliant with both OSHA and ANSI requirements for engineered horizontal lifeline systems.
Wing access
Depending on the local legislation and preferred access method, installation of
the first pad may be via the over-wing door, aerial lift or ladder platform.
End wing anchor pads
The end wing anchor pads are placed at either end of the system, starting with the pad nearest the door/cherry picker depending on local installation guidelines.
Intermediate Pads
The intermediate pads are spaced up to 20 feet (6m) apart, and fixed to the wing by connecting the vacuum hose from pad to pad and then pressurized by the light-weight vacuum module that can be kept within easy reach on the wing.
Stringing the System
To complete the installation, a coated, stainless steel cable is threaded between the pads and tensioned at one end.
Multiple Use
The system is ready for use by up to four people. On low wing aircraft the Wingrip is to be utilized for fall restraint and may be used for full fall arrest on high wing aircraft if there is sufficient fall distance to prevent workers from contacting a lower level.
